Watercolour Workshops with Louise Squire

Originally from Devon and Somerset, Louise trained in art at Somerset College of Art and Technology and gained her degree at Leicester. She qualified as a teacher from London University and recently gained a post graduate qualification in Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education.

Loose and Free Watercolour Workshop
19th March 2026 10am - 3pm

This workshop will encourage you to work with greater freedom, using watercolour. The day will include demonstrations and plenty of support along the way as you experiment with large brushes and loose paint. Materials will be provided, although you may prefer to bring your own watercolours and brushes if you have them. Join us for a brave but fun day that will bring energy and life to your work.
Suitable for beginners and those that have some experience.

Watercolour short course -
15th, 16th, 17th April 2026 10am - 3pm daily

This short course is a fantastic way to develop skills and techniques, giving you the luxury of dedicated time to follow a watercolour painting through from beginning to end and enjoy working in the lovely gallery space at Heritage Courtyard in the beautiful city of Wells. Louise will share her experience as a painter and teacher to support you through experimentation and the introduction of new techniques as you create a series of works and examples that you can take away to inform further work.

This course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience.
There will be demonstrations, time for painting, drawing and experimenting but each day will have a focus:
Day 1 - An introduction to watercolour, including, colour mixing, brushes, paper and developing a sketchbook.
Day 2 - Composition and scale in our work.
Day 3 - From sketch to painting

Paper and a sketchbook are included. Paints and brushes will be available but please do feel free to bring your own if you have them. There will also be a selection of brushes and equipment for sale, that you will use over the three days.

Watercolour on Plaster Workshop - 4th June 2026 10 am - 3pm
£65

This is a great day course for exploring a new surface for painting. In the vein of traditional frescos, we will be creating and using a plaster surface to paint with watercolour. The effects can be subtle but with great depth. We will experiment with applying and removing colour, carving into the surface and building texture.
