Elizabeth Hand

Liz portrait crop (2020_10_22 15_40_59 UTC).jpg

Elizabeth is known as a painter of distant places; her large abstract paintings are inspired by travel.

“With sketchbook in hand I seek places of solitude which are imbued with a sense of the sacred. I am fascinated by traces and layers of history, old walls, and writing found in abandoned places. I seek to recreate a sense of place and the passage of time”.

After a long and successful career in the arts she is now settled in the Cathedral City of Wells. She worked from a studio at Heritage Courtyard for seven happy years. She now shares a new studio in Wells with two other painters. Recent inspiration has included Indian miniature paintings and the river Ganges. Elizabeth has exhibited extensively in this country and beyond. Her next exhibition is at the Spring Gallery in Cheltenham opening on May 8th 2024.

She continues to offer workshops, advises in art education and is Principal Examiner for Cambridge International Pre-U Art and Design.
